“It’s a shame,” Bryn said. “Maybe someone like Kirin could help you find more meaning in life.”

Blake slapped a hand on the steering wheel. “I have plenty of meaning in my life. By the end of next week I’ll own the largest PR empire in the country, and I’m proud of that, even if members of my family aren’t.”

“We’re proud enough. We just never get a chance to tell you.”

They drove in silence for the next couple of miles, Blake wishing that Kirin was here to guide him. He hadn’t said so many words to his brother since they were kids, and he didn’t want it to end like this.

“And I’m proud of you, Bryn,” he finally said. “More than proud. I’m honored to be your brother. When I’m working with a client, someone like Kirin, for example, someone who’s lost confidence in what they can do, how they can use what they have to their best advantage, I often think of you. I know that what you achieve for people is life-changing, not just image-changing, but I like to think that a little bit of you is reflected in a little bit of me.”

They stopped at traffic lights and Bryn turned to him. “I wouldn’t underestimate what you do in terms of changing people’s lives, Blake. If the confidence and passion I saw in Kirin is anything to go by. I’d say you’re having an impact on people, too.”

As he looked into the face of his brother for the first time in years, really looked, Blake recognized his own heart and it scared him to death. What he’d given Kirin made him the most proud he’d ever been in his life.

And he couldn’t wait to tell her.

Although she was racing around like a crazy person, getting ready for her big night tomorrow, Kirin wouldn’t miss a day without chatting to Gwin and Ellie. They’d understand that she couldn’t talk for long, but she wanted to come clean with them about where things were with her and Blake now. They’d been almost as much a part of her journey as Blake had these last couple of weeks, and she wanted to keep them in the loop. She clicked on the group chat.

Gwin: Oh, you are here, K! We thought you might be too busy preparing for the big night tomorrow night.
